Students in Ms. Shaw's English I class are currently studying Shakespeare's greatest tragedy Romeo and Juliet. As part of their study on characters, setting, and drama, students will be posting informed insight from the perspective of a 21st Century teenager. Students will continue to add thoughts and character analysis throughout our reading of Romeo and Juliet.
As an exercise to make Romeo and Juliet come to life for students in Ms. Shaw's English I class, students will assume the voice of selected characters, will write about the times of Romeo and Juliet compared the world we live in, and will explore modern day stories of tragic love.

Romeo-I think that The family feud is dumb because you fight for something that you don't know what you are fighting for. I think that it is due to the generations that came before them. If they never solved the problem why should the kids suffer from it but friendships can help solve problems so why don't they try to be friends
ReplyDeleteYou need some proofreading work here. Your blog post needs to be in accordance with the conventions and standards of English.
DeleteI agree that the family feud is sort of illogical since the new generations don't really even know why they aren't supposed to like the other family. What could Romeo and Juliet do to establish these friendships and help move each family beyond the feud? How might a marriage help? How might it hurt?
We feel hopeless because they can't be together. We love each other so much but our family feud they have going on is keeping them from our happiness. We think the family feud is stupid and should just end.Our plan to marry without permission is so they can be together and our parents can't stop us. Once they are married since Juliet is under fourteen our marriage cannot be annulled.
ReplyDeleteWhen you write in first person, you should not use "they" to refer to the characters. How do the rules of marriage further complicate things, especially for Friar Lawrence? What do you think Lord Capulet might do because of the rules? How might Juliet escape the punishment she may receive for directly disobeying her parents and their wishes?
